Life in La Garrotxa is peaceful. Nature is predominant in the region, 80% of the territory is forest and the rest farmland or pasture. However, among all this nature we also find charming villages and towns.
Olot, capital of the region, concentrates the majority of the population, as well as cultural activities, theatre, cinema, concerts, museums… It is surrounded by smaller towns but with a lot of charm, history and tradition.
If you are interested in history, there are two villages with a great cultural heritage: Santa Pau and Besalú, two towns with buildings over a thousand years old that take us back to the Middle Ages.
The rural world, which dominates the entire region, is particularly visible in the Vall d’en Bas. Seven small towns within the municipality, which together with the agricultural fields and the animals.
Charm, nature and the the man came together to give us one of the best panoramas we can get from the balloon: Castellfollit de la Roca, a town located on a lava flow visible thanks to the erosion of the Fluvià river and the Toronell river.
As you can see, La Garrotxa, in addition to its natural interest, also has different charming villages. We have made a brief x-ray of some of these populations, however we will be writing new blogs to explain each one in a much more detailed and precise way.
