VOL DE COLOMS. WE ARE THE COMPANY SPECIALIZED IN HOT AIR BALLOON FLIGHTS IN LA GARROTXA, SINCE 1992
The company was born from an idea that arose from the four Colom brothers in 1991. At that time, the region was not yet so well known for tourism. Nevertheless, they believed that the volcanic area and all its charms should be made known.
To be able to observe the landscape there were many options, but they decided on a different and unusual one: with a hot air balloon.
Determined with this idea, they went looking for a company that could manufacture the aircraft and allow them to start their business. They went to the only company in Catalonia that manufactured hot air balloons, specifically the company Ultramagic, located in Igualada. The first part which was how to get the aircraft was already in the works, but it was missing someone to fly it. One of the brothers, Toni Colom, manager of the company from the beginning to the present day, was the one who was the pilot of the company.
The idea was very clear: teach the region. They decided to take off from the egg yolk, from the heart of the Garrotxa volcanic area. Specifically, it left from a field in the Can Xel area. The hot air balloon flight took place and then passengers, pilots and ground crew went to breakfast, all together, at the Fageda campsite. An activity that at the time was worth 15,000 pesetas.

The initiative was on the right track and little by little they had more demand, so they decided to have more than one balloon with a different characteristic. The balloons would lead to the sail, advertising the region or prominent towns. A clear intention to be linked and involved with the promotion of la Garrotxa.
With the need to improve attention to the public, the company opted for a change that would become a differentiating aspect of the other balloon companies. In 2011, the Vol de Coloms’ facilities were inaugurated, where all the activity is concentrated: from making the reservation to the service of the farmer’s breakfast offered after the flight.
During the first years of Vol de Coloms, the customers were from the region or the province, so it was no problem for the activity to start very early in the morning because they were only a short distance away. However, with the arrival of new tourists from other parts of Catalonia, there was the problem that they had to get up very early to get to the flight departure. To solve this problem, the company took a new turn and created a travel agency that allowed them to create packages with different accommodations in the region. This is how customers stayed at la Garrotxa.
This was a further step with the company’s involvement with the region and creating a network of tourist companies that feed each other. Accommodation, activities and restaurants were sold through the Nit i Vol agency, creating very attractive packages. This evolution and these changes, following the needs that were emerging, have meant that, today, the company offers a quality product both with the balloon flight, our product, and all the other services we offer to accompany the our experience
