Sant Jordi is the patron saint of lovers in Catalonia in memory of the saint’s feat in saving the princess from the dragon. That is why since the 15th century it has been customary to give a red rose “like blood” to the beloved.
What is true is that in this same century, a rose was given to all the girls who attended the mass that was celebrated in the chapel dedicated to Sant Jordi in the Palau de la Generalitat.
April 23, Saint George’s Day , also coincides with Book Day , the date of the death of the writers Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. Unesco declared this date International Book and Copyright Day.
